About me

Cinematic Portrait

I am an Italian-Swiss film director, screenwriter, and producer based in Geneva, born in 1986. My work explores social and psychological human themes through character-driven fiction shaped by narrative tension and emotional depth. I use the codes of genre cinema (horror, thriller, fantasy, science-fiction, action, adventure, drama) as a lens to tell deeply human stories, where ordinary characters are pushed to their limits and forced to reveal who they truly are.

Before cinema, I lived several lives. I spent years sourcing rare spices and ingredients for Geneva’s finest restaurants, my first real encounter with the world’s cultures, through food and the people behind it. I became Swiss boxing champion in 2013. I worked as a social educator with at-risk teenagers at the Geneva Red Cross. I travelled through South America, Central America and Asia with a backpack and no fixed plan.

Then, I began my directing career in 2019 with Puzzle, a horror short film that received multiple official selections and awards in festivals. My subsequent film, Souvenirs d’Enfance, was awarded a Méliès d’Argent, qualifying for the European Fantastic Film Awards. In 2024, my drama Dernier Round was broadcast on Swiss national television (RTS) and received multiple awards across international festivals. In 2025, I released 2XL, a speculative fiction fable continuing my exploration of identity and human complexity.

Alongside my directing work, I co-founded Backpack Pictures and later joined In.somnia Studios, where I develop and produce short and feature-length projects screened at festivals and broadcast on Swiss national television (RTS).

I direct with instinct. I write with precision. I produce with structure.

And I create because I simply can’t help dreaming.

Reviews

Fern TV

“Vincenzo Aiello gets your imagination running just like his main character who solves the puzzle to its final piece. Puzzle is brilliant and a blueprint for the horror films of the future.”

Belgrade International Film Festival

“We find the “Last Round” as a very professionally done film, that is one of the best pictures we considered so far in the “Best Short Film” section.  Impressive, very impressive!”

Tribune de Genève

“Vincenzo Aiello needs only a few minutes to create atmosphere, evoke unease or fear, and play with the audience’s nerves”
